Prediction and Possibility

Last October at a major national conference, a panel of noted astrologers who predicted the results of the then-upcoming presidential election was the main event. Although the technical rationales differed within the group, the logic in every case was solid and the consensus 100%: Hillary Clinton would win.  I'll leave it to you to imagine the fall-out both within and outside the astrological community.

Although convincing cases can be made for using astrology as a tool to predict future events, I stand with those who believe that certainty is as much an illusion in astrology as it is in life.  Instead, I tap the discipline’s vast wisdom and use it to describe the "climate" against which life and its choices unfold.  Like a weather forecaster, I can tell if storms may be brewing, as they might be for example, when Mars, Uranus or Pluto is stirring the energetic pot. But if they are, it's up to each of us to decide whether or not to get the rain gear out of the closet.

What's more, astrology can provide important insight into how you might best use current or upcoming energies in the service of growth and progress and minimize disruption and stress.  In the energetic cycles that underpin the astrological cosmos, there are times when energies flow smoothly and others when they exert pressure.  Both are opportunities for positive forward motion, but the degree of comfort and difficulty varies and the strategies that can be used to maximize the outcome differ.  Sometimes pleasure and relaxation in the service of replenishment are in order.  At others, it's time to roll up the sleeves, grit the teeth, and get going, and there's a whole spectrum of possibilities and combinations in between.  But at the end of the day, free will and choice are what determines the outcome, that and the Universe's unremitting commitment to pointing us in the direction of our highest good, not predetermined "fate."

A quick example.  Twenty years ago, I miraculously survived a boating accident that I had no business surviving.  At the time the astrological signatures of potential transformation, including the “BIG” transformation, were abundant in my chart, and a fortune-teller type astrologer might have told me the week before to get my affairs in order and say my goodbyes.  It was a very possible outcome, for sure, and certainly rough patch to navigate, but it led me to examine my life and make important shifts of focus.  And thankfully I'm here to tell the story.

Odds are that some predictions are bound to come true, but in this world of eternal “becoming" I'll stick to monitoring the astrological radar, trying to recognize the possibilities and make the best choices, and help those who seek astrology's wise guidance do the same.

Blessings on your way,
